George Ann Skelton is an accomplished gospel singer/song writer, wife, and mother living in Oxon Hill, Maryland. She wrote and performs to glory of God on her debut CD Always There, which was nominated for a Stellar Award in 2007 and which includes the song “Redeemed Woman” which was nominated for an EnSound Music Award. George Ann has a strong, beautiful alto voice and her project is a well-produced gospel/R&B fusion. She has performed on programs that featured artists like Hezekiah Walker, Vickie Winans, and Shirley Ceasar. It seems that she has truly been blessed. Like a butterfly in the spring, her life has been blessed with beautiful colors and freedom. But all butterflies endure tremendous struggle during their transformation to beauty, and George Ann was no exception.

In the title track, “Always There”, George Ann sings, “Dark despair had come and overtaken me, I was bound and freedom was so hard to see.” These words speak of the dark, hopeless days George Ann spent homeless – yes; she lived on the streets for three years. “Such a hard and cruel world, such a sad and lonely girl,” her ballad continues. “No hopes, no means, just shattered dreams was me.” George Ann was cruelly abused – mentally, physically, and sexually. She could not see a way out. But despite it all, she now recognizes that Jesus was Always There. Yes, Jesus rescued her.

In 2 Samuel 6, David is the King of an Israelite nation struggling without its Holy Ark of the Covenant. The enemy had captured the county’s most cherished and sacred artifact. But when the Ark was finally returned to the City of David, the scripture says in 2 Samuel 6:14, “David danced before the Lord with all his might.” Many of us Christians gave up dancing when we got saved. We gave up the club life, and in the process, we gave up the joy of dancing. But George Ann says “Let’s Dance!” With a funky and righteous groove, George Ann commands us to “Dance – just move your feet, shout for joy, Get out of your seat, Praise Him like its your last chance, It’s time to dance!” Jesus rescued George Ann from bondage and she celebrates and praises Him with a dance. And she blessed us with this track that will make you want to dance with her!

George Ann’s husband Keith Skelton, also known as the Christian rapper Goddchild, is at the epicenter of her ministry. Together, they deliver a married couples ministry that promotes healthy Christian relationships. With nearly two thirds of all black marriages ending in divorce, their ministry is the right prescription. In the love song “We Can Make It”, George Ann and Keith encourage couples with “I know we can make it, Through the storm and the rain, If we just hold on a little bit longer, By His Grace.” Keith completes the duet by rapping to his bride, “Only by His grace, We’ve made it this far, Let’s just stand back be still, Let God be God, From this day forward, We’re gonna trust the Lord.” From the loneliness and despair of homelessness, through abuse and suffering, God has blessed George Ann with a loving marriage that’s strong enough to strengthen others.

George Ann has ministered all over the country at concerts and women’s conferences, sharing her testimony and bringing women of all ages to Christ. Her ministry, empowered by Christ, has healed the oldest and deepest wounds of those who have suffered in silence. She told me that many older women who were abused were taught to keep it all inside, but through her ministry, they find healing. A very moving song on the CD is “Redeemed Woman”, where George Ann professes, “And what He’s done for me, He’ll do the same thing for you.” Her life demonstrates what God can and will do for us if we only believe in His Son and live by His word. Yes, George Ann Skelton has been blessed. Buy“Always There” and let her blessing overflow onto you.
